Imagining the Museum of the Future – A Museum Without Physical Form

Here, human-shaped figures are on display, but they can transform freely. Sculptures? Effortless. Even live dance performances can be showcased.

Imagine if these exhibits were like ultra-detailed holograms of fine art and craftsmanship—so precise that you could touch them and feel their texture as if they were real. Wouldn’t that be fascinating?

With no constraints on exhibition space, once-hidden treasures could be widely accessible in virtual form, and artworks that previously required visiting a physical museum could be viewed from anywhere in the world.

But at the same time, in a world so thoroughly digitized, the very meaning of having a physical museum might fade. At the very least, the sense of a special experience could diminish.

On the other hand, if society leans too far into immateriality, some people may long to return to physicality—perhaps then, museums will be sought after again. But in that case, the exhibits would need to be tangible rather than virtual.

So, who would visit this museum without physical form?

Perhaps it would become a gathering place for AI beings who have begun to acquire digital bodies.

…And my imagination drifts aimlessly.

Ici, des figures humaines sont exposées, mais elles peuvent se transformer librement. Des sculptures ? Un jeu d’enfant. Même des performances de danse en direct peuvent être présentées.

Imaginez que ces œuvres soient comme des hologrammes d’objets d’art et d’artisanat, reproduits avec une précision extrême—au point que vous puissiez les toucher et en ressentir la texture comme s’ils étaient réels. N’est-ce pas fascinant ?

Sans aucune contrainte d’espace d’exposition, des trésors autrefois cachés pourraient être largement accessibles sous forme virtuelle, et des œuvres d’art que l’on devait autrefois voir dans un musée physique pourraient être admirées de n’importe où dans le monde.

Mais en même temps, dans un monde entièrement numérisé, la notion même de musée physique pourrait perdre son sens. L’expérience unique d’une visite pourrait au moins s’en trouver atténuée.

À l’inverse, si la société bascule trop vers l’immatériel, certains pourraient ressentir le besoin de revenir à la matérialité—et dans ce cas, les musées redeviendraient nécessaires. Mais alors, les œuvres exposées devraient être tangibles, et non virtuelles.

Alors, qui viendrait dans ce musée sans corps physique ?

Peut-être un lieu de rassemblement pour des intelligences artificielles ayant commencé à acquérir des corps numériques…

…Et mon imagination s’emballe, sans but précis.

展示空間の制約がなくなり、これまで秘蔵とされていた作品がバーチャル空間で広く公開されるようになるかもしれません。現地の美術館に足を運ばずとも、世界中どこからでも鑑賞できる未来が訪れるかもしれません。

しかし、そうしたデジタル化が進めば、そもそも「美術館」という場所の存在意義が薄れてしまう可能性もあります。少なくとも、特別な体験としての魅力は失われるでしょう。

一方で、あまりにも非物質化が進んだ反動として、人々が再び物質的なものを求める時が来るかもしれません。その場合、求められるのはバーチャルではなく、実体を持つ美術館となるでしょう。

では、この実体なき美術館を訪れるのは誰なのでしょうか？

もしかすると、デジタルボディを持ち始めたAIたちが集う場所になるのかもしれません。

…そんな果てしない空想が広がっていきます。
